1 TAMIL NADU NURSING COUNCIL AT A GLANCE

2 INTRODUCTION The Tamilnadu Nursing Council is the earliest Nursing Council in the whole South-East Asia. The Assent of the British Government, a vital legislation for regulating the Nursing training and practice was passed by the Legislature was made on 7th May 1926 and signed by the Governor General on the 9th June The same was published in Fort St. George Gazette on the 29th June And this Act of 1926 came into force on the 14th day February 1928 It is called the Madras Nurses and Midwives Act It was amended as per Nurses and Midwives Act VII of 1934 and Act XXVI(26) of 1960, till today we follow the same.

3 This Council is an autonomous statutory registration body for registering qualified Nurses, Midwives, Auxiliary-Nurse-Midwives /Multipurpose Health Workers / Health Visitors as per the provisions of the Act. It extend its registration to Union Territories ie: Pondicherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.

4 TERMINOLOGY What is meant by Statutory? Lawful
What is meant by Statues? It is a written Law. What is meant by Council? Official group of members governs by Law. What is meant by Regulatory? To govern / to direct according to Law. What is meant by Act? Any bill passed in the 2/3rd majority of the Legislative Body becomes Act. Eg., RTI Act. What is Legislature? Legislature means Law Making Body. Who is Legislator? Legislator is a member of Legislative Body.

7 FUNCTIONS OF THE COUNCIL
AS PER THE TNNMC ACT : REGISTRATION Within State Other State Foreign Verification RECOGNITION Regulation of training programmes and granting recognition to the nursing institutions in Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Andaman & Nicobar Islands. REVOKING Monitoring the professional ethics. Regulation and surveillance of professional conduct and take action against practice of their professional by quacks and check malpractice.
