Learning Strategies What are learning strategies? Learning strategies are the thoughts and/or actions that students use to complete learning tasks. They help students process, remember and retrieve information.

Why are Learning Strategies Important?
They provide students with a systematic approach to learning tasks. Learning strategies move students from passivity to ACTIVITY. Learning strategies are generalizable.

How are strategies taught?
INTRODUCE the goal of the lesson and the rationale for the learning strategy. DESCRIBE the strategy. MODEL the strategy. REHEARSE the steps in the strategy. PROMPT students in learning the strategy. CHECK students use of the strategy.
