1 Verbs p

2 Verb Expresses an action, a condition, or a state of being.
Action Verb Expresses action, either physical or mental. The band marches onto the field. The audience expects a great performance.

3 Linking Verbs Links the subject of a sentence to a word in the predicate. Forms of To Be is, am, are, was, were, been, being Verbs that Express Condition look, smell, feel, sound, taste, grow, appear, become, seem, remain *If you can replace a verb with a form of be, that verb is a linking verb.

4 Action or Linking? Some verbs can be either action or linking verbs, depending upon how they’re used. Action We felt the seat cushions. We tasted the popcorn. Linking The cushions felt dry. The popcorn tasted salty.

5 Auxiliary or Helping Verbs
Verbs that are combined with other verbs to form verb phrases. Used to express a tense of a verb (past, present, or future). Common Auxiliary Verbs be have might shall can may must should will would

6 Write in your notes… Linking – Forms of “to be” (am, is, are, was, were…) and verbs that involve the 5 senses: look, taste, feel, sound, become, grow… Auxiliary(helping) – help create a tense – would, should, could, will, shall, can, may, might, must Action – things that are “done” – dance, bring, walk, write, create…
