KahlWax – the leading wax specialist Marketing Trend presentation ANTI-pollution concepts
2
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS
Where does it come from? Global trend originated in China having the worst polluted air in the world Worldwide increasing concern about high level of environmental contamination 80% of people living in urban areas are exposed to very bad air quality levels Atmospheric pollution affects outdoor air but is also present indoors, resulting from burning biomass due to cooking or heating with solid fuels on open fire, tobacco smoking and vapors from building material, paints, furniture etc.
3
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS
What is in the bad air? Primary pollutants are created by road, ship and air traffic, power plants, waste-to-energy facilities, oil refineries and other industrial facilities These are particulate matter, gases, light molecular weight hydrocarbons and volatile organic compounds (VOC) Primary pollutants form by chemical reaction with atmospheric gases, heat and UV radiation secondary pollutants such as ozone and peroxyacetyl nitrates
4
What does pollution do with our skin?
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS What does pollution do with our skin? Skin is our first defense line against the environment and in direct and constant contact with air The skin has the ability to defend itself from pollutants, but when exposed to high levels of contaminants the capacity is surpassed In cutaneous tissues pollutants trigger the formation of free radicals (reactive oxygen species) and pro- inflammatory cytokines Free radicals proliferate through a chain reaction attacking skin cell membranes leading to loss of function
5
Do you want wrinkles or pimples?
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS Do you want wrinkles or pimples? Pollutants are irritants, they destroy the skins extracellular matrix including keratin but also collagen and elastin responsible for firmness and elasticity The visible results are sign of premature aging like wrinkles, grey skin tone and hyperpigmentation But dirt particles are also leading to clogged pores, excessive sebum and impure skin which can be in worst case acne
6
Bad air is the newest enemy in skin care
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS Bad air is the newest enemy in skin care Cosmetic products that combat signs of pollution are booming, between 2011 and 2013 there was already a 40% rise in the number of cosmetics launched with a anti-pollution related claim But still everyone is on search for the best way to address the adverse effects of pollution and tests to prove the efficacy are still in evaluation and not really standardized Protecting skin against pollution is for consumers the third most given reason for using skin care, behind improving skin texture and brightening complexion
7
Get clean and stay clean
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS Get clean and stay clean First of all the skin needs to get rid of all dust and microparticles particles Deep cleansing products are usually a combination of several functional ingredients making sure all type of pollutants are removed Gentle polishing agents are very helpful as the also reduce the pore clogging Anti-inflammatory agents fight against skin impurities Let skin lightening agents deal with hyperpigmentation
8
Stop the chain reaction
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS Stop the chain reaction Shield the skin against future damage and decrease the adhesion of microparticles and the cutaneous penetration by adding protective film former Essential are antioxidants in order to reduce the amount of free radicals and stop further chemical reactions The combination with UV filters is important to minimize stress factors The addition of specific chelating agents help also to reduce the binding of toxic metals
9
Get strong and fight back
ANTI-POLLUTION CONCEPTS Get strong and fight back Healthy skin has intact barrier properties, allowing the skin to recover and repair damaged cells through an ongoing regenerative process Therefore damages need to get repaired and the skin strengthened Repair skin barrier disruption e.g. by adding ceramides and activate with superfood ingredients the own defend system, increasing the production of self-protecting, antioxidant molecules Boost with high-end actives the production of essential proteins and enzymes which enhance barrier function and cell cohesion

The ideal ingredient for powerful anti-pollution care
JASMINE WAX 6684 The ideal ingredient for powerful anti-pollution care Soft, amber colored wax with moderate melting point around 60°C Similar characteristics than beeswax but without a dull or sticky skin feel Minor oil binding capacity Rather softens than hardens formulations Forms medium size crystals but does not tend to re-crystallize or cause blooming Has the wonderful scent of jasmine blossoms Use level of > 2% provide the formulation with the pleasant odor
12
The natural protection power
JASMINE WAX 6684 The natural protection power In-house studies have shown that the use of a formulation with 6684 eases the removal of dirt particles and reduces their adhesion Forms a flexible protective film that blocks particle penetration Very smooth and conditioning skin feel closer to an emollient than to a typical wax Amber colored wax gives emulsions a pop of old rose Use level 1-3%

Pollution - the dirty truth
Summary Pollution - the dirty truth Anti-pollution is the latest "thing" in beauty industry Antioxidants against free radicals are the key ingredients There are three different anti-pollution strategies Focus on deep cleansing to get rid of dirt and impurities Protect the skin against damage Repair the skin barrier 6684 Jasmine wax is for all three concepts the ingredient of choice!
