1 Building Team work skills as a Young Professional
This presentation aims to help young people better understand the ways we can build our team work skills, why having good team work skills are important and how we all can build and develop our team work skills throughout our lives.

2 What is teamwork? Working with a group of people to achieve a shared goal or outcome in an effective way What sort of teams are there? Sport Business Project Community Fundraising Family Friendship groups Class What's really interesting about teamwork is that the best teams know that it is their combined effort that makes them successful. A team rarely works when it's all about one person or when people in the team have different goals. Can you think of a team that is less successful because they don't work as well together as they could? It might be a sporting team or maybe even the teams working on Alan Sugars Apprentice?

3 What makes a team work? Understanding each other's strengths and working with them Listening to other members of the team Taking everyone’s ideas on board, not just your own Working for the good of the group as a whole Having a say and sharing responsibility Think of some great team examples, have the young people you are working with experience a great example themselve. What made these teams work?

4 Why are team work skills important?
In education, training, employment and in your personal life you’ll be in a team - it’s a must have skill. At different times you will need to undertake different roles in a team so building up lots of experience will help you. Team work is a great way to work with lots of different - which means you'll learn lots and be more employable and a better team player all round - everyone’s a winner Don’t forget: the better your team work skills are the more likely your team are to succeed. Whether it's winning a sports trophy, scoring top marks in a group project or planning the BEST birthday party your skills can help your team succeed and that has to be worth celebrating! It's good to note that we are all different and we all bring something different to a team.

5 Which team member are you?
Teams need all different players to make them successful. It's useful to know what role you naturally play, but also good to try different roles and allow others to do the same: Leader The public speaker Organiser The ideas person Note Taker The one who doesn't pull their weight Sometimes we rotate around these different roles, it depends on who the other members in the team are. It's good to be able to play all of these different roles, maybe other than the one that doesn't pull their weight. Ask the young person which role they think they mostly are and if they have and can take on the other roles too. The shy one

6 Develop your skills - Top Tips
Play an active part in the team you are in, you might not be the leader but each team member should be responsible for creating a good atmosphere and making sure everyone feels included. When you are in a team take a note of where the gap is, if everyone wants to be the speaker maybe you can try a different role. Make sure you take responsibility for the tasks that you have in your team. Its up to you to complete them to the best standard, don't let the team down

7 Practice like a Young Professional
There are so many ways for you to practice - Get involved with extra projects, why not look at fundraising for a cause you are passionate about Volunteer - work with a team to succeed in a shared goal! Get involved with more groups : join a sports team, or sign up for the school play or choir Take more time to think about your role within groups, on family trips try out being the leader or organiser. Identify some opportunities for the young people you are working with to develop their skills in your setting or a setting they are familiar with (volunteering, youth clubs, sports, National Citizen Service etc). Make sure that you and the colleagues you work with recognise it when the young people you work with use good teamwork skills. Recognising and praising good skill use will help them to know they are doing something well and boost their confidence. Ensure that the young people you are working with register as a Young Professional Member and have the time to complete the weekly challenges and explore some of the articles on the site to help boost their skills.
