1 Reading The Bible in Context
Ruth 2 Reading The Bible in Context

2 I need 8 Volunteers Each volunteer will read a section of Ruth
They will summarize their section in one sentence. (Can be broad and non specific.) We will then hear the story out of order. And out of context. Once we hear the passages in their right context. We can see the wider story.

3 Jeremiah 13:26 So I will pull your skirts up over your face, that your shame may be seen.

4 Ruth 2:13 “May I continue to find favor in your eyes, my lord,” she said. “You have put me at ease by speaking kindly to your servant—though I do not have the standing of one of your servants.”

6 The overseer replied, “She is the Moabite.. 8So Boaz said to Ruth, “My daughter, listen to me. Don’t go and glean in another field… Stay here with the women who work for me I have told the men not to lay a hand on you. And whenever you are thirsty, go and get a drink from the water jars the men have filled.” 10 At this, she bowed down with her face to the ground. She asked him, “Why have I found such favor in your eyes that you notice me—a foreigner?” SEGMENT VERSE

13 Leviticus 19:33-34 33 “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. 34 The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God. Exodus 23:9 9 “Do not oppress a foreigner; you yourselves know how it feels to be foreigners, because you were foreigners in Egypt. Malachi 3:5 5 “So I will come to put you on trial. I will be quick to testify those...who oppress the widows and the fatherless, and deprive the foreigners among you of justice, but do not fear me,” says the Lord Almighty.

14 Leviticus 25:35 35 “‘If any of your fellow Israelites become poor and are unable to support themselves among you, help them as you would a foreigner and stranger, so they can continue to live among you. Deuteronomy 10:18-19 18 He defends the cause of the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner residing among you, giving them food and clothing. 19 And you are to love those who are foreigners, for you yourselves were foreigners in Egypt. Jeremiah 22:3 3 This is what the Lord says: Do what is just and right. Rescue from the hand of the oppressor the one who has been robbed. Do no wrong or violence to the foreigner, the fatherless or the widow, and do not shed innocent blood in this place. Leviticus 23:22 22 “‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of your harvest. Leave them for the poor and for the foreigner residing among you. I am the Lord your God.’”
