On The Judgement Day – We Will Be Judged By Jesus Christ
John 12:48 “the word I have spoken will judge him in the last day” Acts 17:30,31 “judge the world in righteousness by the Man whom He has ordained” 2 Corinthians 5:10 “all appear before the judgment seat of Christ” 2 Timothy 4:1 “the Lord Jesus Christ, Who will judge the living and the dead”
4
Jesus Also Spoke of Others Judging On That Day
The Queen of the South – Luke 11:31 “rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation and condemn them” The Men of Nineveh – Luke 11:32 “rise up in the judgment with generation and condemn in” In what way will they judge the generation of Jesus’ day? Might they also judge US on that day?
5
THE QUEEN OF THE SOUTH Historical Background:
Queen of Sheba – City of Arabia – 1 Kings 10:1 Located south of Judea – at least 1,200 miles Came to see Solomon – 1 Kings 10:2-13 Great entourage & wealth Amazed by Solomon’s wisdom & wealth Praised Solomon & gave great gifts Solomon gave gifts to her
6
THE QUEEN OF THE SOUTH WHY SHE WILL CONDEMN THEM?
She traveled great distance to hear truth- they had truth at hand – Luke 11:31 She traveled to hear Solomon – they had access to One far wiser, better & greater By past example & future testimony she will condemn those who rejected Jesus!
7
THE QUEEN OF THE SOUTH WILL SHE CONEMN US?
If we reject such easy access to the Word of God today! If we allow such things as time & distance to keep us from learning the truth, attending assemblies for worship, etc.
8
THE QUEEN OF THE SOUTH MIGHT OTHERS CONDEMN US?
Some Christians whose example might pt us to shame Might they not rise with the Queen of the South to condemn us on Judgment Day, IF we make excuses for not making the effort to learn the truth & serve the Lord? Even non-Christians whose example could shame us Do they serve their ideologies with greater fervor than we do our Lord?
9
THE MEN OF NINEVEH HISTORICAL BACKGROUND:
Jonah sent to preach to the Ninevites- Jonah 1:1,2; 3:1-4 Capital of Assyria was a large city His message: “Yet forth days, & Nineveh shall be overthrown!” Favorable response – Jonah 3:5-10 People believed, fasted in sackcloth – included King God relented from disaster
10
THE MEN OF NINEVEH WHY THEY WILL CONDEMN THEM
Gave heed to a minor prophet – Luke 11:32 Sinful, foolish, bigoted prophet A message of damnation & doom A sermon without signs & wonders to confirm it Israelites reject Son of God – Luke 11:32 A sinless, wise & compassionate Messiah A message of grace & redemption Many signs & wonders to confirm being from God Past example & future testimony condemn all who reject Jesus
11
THE MEN OF NINEVEH WILL THEY CONDEMN US? MIGHT OTHERS CONDEMN US?
If we reject the words of Jesus Christ today! If we refuse to repent & respond to the gospel of Jesus Christ, despite the many opportunities that have been given to us! MIGHT OTHERS CONDEMN US? Christians whose example might put us to shame Might they not rise with the men of Nineveh to condemn us on the Judgment Day, if we make excuses for not obeying the truth? Even non-Christians may shame us
12
WITH WHOM SHALL WE STAND ON THE JUDGMENT DAY?
Will it be with those like the Queen of the South & The Men of Nineveh? Or with those like the Israelites who rejected the Savior sent to them?
13
THE ANSWER DEPENDS ON HOW WE MAKE USE OF THE OPPORTUNITIES GIVE US
Whether we will make the effort to learn the truth Whether we will make the effort to heed to truth
