“Brain Youth Group is a non-profit organization that works towards the sustainable development of Mombasa County. The group is engaged in revenue generating activities, like fish ponds and a mangrove nursery that allow the funding of other projects: mangrove reforestation in Tudor Creek and educational programs. BYG activities will allow Mombasa County to grow economically while preserving the environment.”

4. BYG is proposing some effective solutions to Mombasa County’s problems

Both issues make villagers exploit the natural resources, causing:
Degradation of land, because of sand harvesting activities
Degradation of mangroves, because they are cut down for wood, causing:
Deforestation

Reduction against tsunami protection
Negative visual impact
Construction of 10 fish ponds
Alternative source of income for villagers
Source of affordable fish
Replantation of 50,000 mangroves per year
The creation of a mangrove nursery will help this objective
Creation of regular educational campaigns
Teach about the importance of the forest
Teach about other relevant topics such as nutrition or HIV
