2nd Grade Ms. Alderson’s Superheroes Week of October 8, 2018 WEEKLY HOMEWORK A Peek at Our Week Reading: Illustrations We will use information gained from the illustrations and words in print or digital text to understand its characters, setting, or plot. Writing Choose a writing prompt from the October writing calendar Math Practice math facts Practice skip counting by 5s, 10s, and 100s within 1,000 Math: Place Value We will learn how the three digits of a three digit number represent amounts of hundreds, tens, and ones. We will read and write numbers to 1,000 using different forms. We will also skip count by 5s, 10s, 100s within 1,000. Spelling Choose an activity from Speller’s Choice Board Complete S.O.S. for weekly words: knew, most, even Writing: Personal Narratives We will continue working on our personal narratives. Great writers revise and edit their small moments before publishing a final piece. Reading Read 20 minutes every day Raz-kids Science/SS/Health: Rules & Laws/Government We will define the concept of government and the need for rules and laws. We will identify elected officials of the executive branch and where they work. (President/national leader, Governor/state leader, Mayor/city leader) S.S./Science Work on your pumpkin book report project Class Blog: Spelling & Word Study Spelling Pattern Language Skill Mark Your Calendar Gentle Cindy Rule (hard/soft C and G) If a C or G is followed by e, i, or y, the g or c will say its soft sound C will say “s” and G will say “j” Ex: cent, face, gym, age Proper Nouns As we finish up our personal narratives and begin editing and revising, we will review proper nouns. We will make sure that we are capitalizing them in our writing as well as capitalizing the beginning of sentences.
