1. Limparfait

2. There are two forms of the past in French. You have already learned the passé composé. The other form is limparfait.

3. Limparfait You start with the nous form of the verb You drop the –ons ending. You add the following endings.

4. Les terminaisons ais ait ions iez aient

5. You use limparfait when you are: – setting the scene – describing something – talking about habitual or repeated actions – the action has no real beginning or ending

6. They were working. Ils travaillent. She was finishing. Elle finissait. We were giving the book back. Nous rendions le livre.

7. There are three irregulars: – être ét – falloir fallait – pleuvaitpleuvait

8. cer and ger verbs -cer verbs will add the ç in all forms except the nous and vous! This is different than the present. -ger verbs will add the - e in all forms except the nous and vous!
