3. What are SATs? Children are assessed in: Reading Writing Mathematics
SPaG
In KS1 the emphasis is on teacher assessment, the tests support this judgement.

4. Tasks and Tests Reading – Two papers (A and B)
Maths – Reasoning and Calculation
Spelling- Spelling task
SPaG- Test
Writing task

5. Teacher Assessment
If children do not perform to the best of their ability in the test, teacher assessment can be used.
Children will not know that they are taking SATs, it is done as subtly as possible.
Likewise if the chn do exceedingly well we would expect to see evidence like this in class.

6. SAT’s will be taken during the month of May.
The children will complete reading and mathematics in small groups with the teacher however, any writing tasks will be done during class time as a full class.

7. Levels Levels changed last year. Entering (E2) Developing (D2)
Secure (Y2 average by the end of the year) (S2)
Mastering (X2)

8. The Results Results are reported to the LEA.
An overall result will be made available with yearly reports.

9. What can you do to help?
Read together every day and ask questions about the story.
Use number problems in every day life, at the shops, on the bus, telling the time etc.
Continue to work on any targets discussed at parents evening.
Continue to practise spellings and encourage them to use a wider range of vocabulary.

10. What can you do to help?
Explicit revision is not necessary [teacher assessment].
Children are already familiar with question format through subtle teaching.
We will be sending home a practice reading paper for you to work through together with your child as homework as well as extra spellings. .
