Being a teen can be really stressful
Being a teen can be really stressful! Mindfulness is a powerful way to handle stress, and live life more fully. Mindfulness is all about living fully in the present moment, without judgment, and with an attitude of kindness and curiosity. It’s about breathing, noticing what’s happening right here and now, sending a gentle smile to whatever you’re experiencing in this moment (whether it’s easy or difficult), and then letting it go.

Often times we have the monkey mind, constantly jumping around from branch to branch, thought to thought. When we practice mindfulness, we learn that much of the chatter of the mind is just that: chatter. It’s not reality — it’s worry, it’s anxiety, it’s baseless projection.

How can mindfulness help?
1. Mindfulness can reduce stress. 2. Getting over a fight with friends just got a little simpler. Practicing meditation can make it easier for teens to forgive others. It increases ability to have compassion and love. 3. It can help boost test scores and improve working memory, according to a new study in Psychological Science, a journal of the Association. 4. It improves the brain literally by rebuilding grey matter. (Grey matter is involved in muscle control, memory, emotions, and speech). 5. Improves attention span and focus level. 6. Reduces anxiety and depression. 7. Helps to be able to express emotions more easily. Scholastic Choices Magazine

How Can I Practice Being Mindful?
Take notice throughout your day how your body is feeling and also what is going on in your mind. Pay attention to what you are doing as you are actually doing it. In the next conversation you have, listen to the person without thinking of the next thing to say. Stop and smell the roses. Pay attention to something you normally ignore. Notice the sky, a tree, a flower etc Look up from the device..what are you missing when you look down at your phone all the time? 6. Do or say something nice to someone else today for no reason.
