To say WHY we do something. Nick joined the band to become a better player. INFINITIVE We baked a cake to celebrate her birthday. We practiced the dialogues to show a good presentation.

2 HAVE GOT Used in informal speaking. To talk about possession.
To talk about family / relationships. They’ve got blue eyes. I’ve got two brothers. We do not use it to describe actions. She has got breakfast at eight o’ clock. Past tense HAD I had got a car a year ago. I had a car a year ago.

3 Exercise: Describe this family.

4 ONE & ONES Use ONE (singular) and ONES (plural) to refer to countable nouns. Which is your brother? The tall one over there. We usually use ONE with an adjective, or after this / that / these / those. He was the last one. I want one.

5 4 WAYS TO IDENTIFY A GERUND
Gerunds (-ing) When a verb ends in -ing, it may be a gerund or a present progressive: (They are NOT the same) 4 WAYS TO IDENTIFY A GERUND 1. Ends in -ING 2. You can replace all the gerunds with "real" nouns: Fishing is fun.  It is fun I will call you after arriving at the office.  I will call you after my arrival at the office. Please have a drink before leaving.  Please have a drink before your departure. 3. Gerunds go after certain verbs and prepositions. 4. It is NOT the action of the sentence. I saw an  interesting movie. (Gerund) Anthony is fishing. (X)

6 We can use gerunds to show likes and dislikes
We can use gerunds to show likes and dislikes. We use them after the verbs: Like, love, enjoy, hate and don´t mind. I like painting. She loves skating. We hate studying.

7 Peter and Julie enjoy ____________ tennis. (play)
John loves _____________ . (skateboard) My mom doesn´t mind __________ every night. (cook) My sister ______________ going to movies. (enjoy) I _____________ talking on the telephone. (hate)

8 Preposition + gerund I am looking forward to meeting you. Tara always dreams about going on holiday. Verb + gerund We can use gerunds after these verbs: I love being with you.
