LAMAS Working Group 7-8 December 2015
Agenda Item 2.6 Household subsampling in the future LFS
2
Contents Overview of situation concerning HH subsampling
List of variables Sub-group on subsampling
3
Overview of current situation
Sample of independent observations throughout the year Minimum size: wave or 15,000 households Positively defined list of variables Weighting and consistency requirements
4
Overview of current situation
HH subsampling and AHMs (linked to BACKGR): AHM information for all HH members AHM information for reference person plus full HH information (e.g. labour status of all persons) AHM information for reference person, only limited HH composition information (# persons, age, etc.) For each regular AHM, Eurostat proposal in June 2016 LAMAS
5
List of variables Basic agreement in June 2015 LAMAS
Proposals concerning currently open issues: Include reasons (repeated/increased policy demand): FTPTREAS, TEMPREAS, AVAIREAS, SEEKREAS Drop ISCO4D (difficult/costly) Starting point for work on implementing act
6
Sub-group on subsampling
Implementing act: subsampling options, criteria and requirements Sub-group (later): best practices and guidelines for the different subsampling options taking into account past and current experiences of countries already using it
7
The LAMAS Working Group is asked to:
agree on the draft list of variables required from all household members in case of household sub-sampling (including reasons, excluding ISCO) comment on the possible creation of a sub-group focussing on subsampling issues
8
Exchange of views Few countries applying HH subsampling (or planning to do so) but: decision has impact on any future HH analysis at EU level! Few concrete concerns: DK: inclusion of reasons justified? FI: further HH variables instead of subsample? IS: possible problems with proxies? Subsampling in small countries? Sub-group: support; start earlier?
