The AP World History: Modern Course
There are nine (9) units to the course. Unit 1 starts circa 1200 C.E. Unit 9 ends at the Present Day The number of multiple choice questions on the examination are balanced proportionally between these nine (9) units.

The Course Content All details can be found on my website section: There are nine (9) sub-pages linked to this main page for each of the units in the curriculum. I strongly urge you to bookmark this site as it will be used daily throughout the school year.

Note Taking Many of you will use the iPad for your notes. Some may prefer to use taking notes by hand on paper. I have no objection to either method. Every class will involve note taking so please be prepared. In addition there will be handouts for certain classes so I strongly suggest a binder of some kind to keep these in chronological order You must be organized at all times as it is a key to success.

AP Classroom This is new this year and it will offer a great deal of additional material for the course including sample tests and tips as to the examination. It also has an administrative function that will help us order the examinations and provide personal answer sheets. More information and instructions will follow in the next few days.

NYS Regents Examination
All students are required to take this examination in June. The syllabus for this course can be found in its own section on my website: This course starts circa 1750 C.E. and also ends at the Present Day The essay questions are different to the AP format and these will also be covered during the school year.

Assignments Homework will be on a regular basis and will consist of textbook readings and responses from Ways of the World or other essential handouts and articles. All tests will be given according to the school calendar. Advance notice of the content covered will be given. Part of the grade will be short-answer questions and essay writing, both at home and in-class, and they will be a major part of your overall grade.

Review Book I strongly urge every student to buy an AP World History: Modern review book once they are available. I do not recommend one particular book as I have not yet seen most of the new versions. However if I find one in particular during the start of the year, I will pass along this information. Note: Your review book will be your new best friend later on in the school year.

So What’s Next? Sit back, get comfortable, be prepared to learn and keep an open mind. You may struggle at times, that is to be expected. This is a college level course and it will be taught in a similar fashion. It all comes together in the end!
