Reimagining general practice
The role of technology

Technology Since the industrial revolution, technology has been fundamental to progress and innovation Introduction of factory production in 18th century Increased mechanisation in the 19th century More automation in the early 20th century And the technological revolution that brings us up to present day There was an apprehension

An hypothetical future where technology, hardware and software are so sophisticated that human workers are made redundant. You’d be forgiven for thinking

And in a world of growing populations, increasingly complex care needs, and increasingly elderly populations We’re going to need good technology. Not a rise of the machines but a partnership

I wish they’d hurry up! Of course, we know now, that it doesn’t work that way. But we do have expectations

Supporting clinicians in bringing anticoagulation into Primary Care – great for patients
The support is needed – the few practices who we’ve partnerered with so far, were showing error rates of up to 20%

Treated 700 patients so far

No need to see GP/Nurse Pilot phase - 55% do not need a face to face appointment with a GP or a nurse (well controlled) 35 hours of GP time 102 hours of nurse time For 484 patients seen

137 hours Pilot phase - 55% do not need a face to face appointment with a GP or a nurse (well controlled) 35 hours of GP time 102 hours of nurse time For 484 patients seen

Over 800 appointments Over minute appointments

Over 3,500 appointments Extrapolate – average size practice: 440 hours of nurse time ( min nurse appts) , 151 hours of Doctor time (906 appointments) Equivalent cost saving - inclusive of additional cost of HCA time. Actual: £9,097 Extrapolated: £37,231

£37,231 Actual: 123 hours nurse time. 48 hours of GP time.
Predicted: 503 hours of nurse time, 196 hours of Doctor time (4,194 appointments) Equivalent cost saving - inclusive of additional cost of HCA time. Actual: £9,097 Extrapolated: £37,231
