Inventing a Product

15 My Very Own Invention An advertisement is a presentation or visual that is used to convince the public to do something, like support a cause or buy a product. We see and hear advertisements everywhere: on television, on the radio, in magazines, and on billboards and bulletin boards. A product advertisement explains — usually in a creative way that grabs attention — what the product is, why it is special, and why people should buy it.

16 You Will Create the Following:
An invention that is original and creative A poster to inform your audience about your invention – your poster must include the following: a picture of your invention a description of your invention and what it is used for an explanation of why people should buy or use it the price of your invention and where people can buy it

17 You Will Complete Three Steps:
Create an invention that has a certain purpose. Write a script that will convince people to buy or use your invention. Make a poster that advertises your invention to the public. NOTE: If you need some ideas to help develop a new invention, you may do additional research on other amazing inventions that we have today. Refer to the PBL website to find extra articles.

18 Step 1: Think of an Invention
Inventions change the way that we do things. Sometimes they make things easier, or sometimes they are completely new and unique. Come up with a unique invention. Then complete the graphic organizer on pg. 36 to help you describe your new invention.

19 Step 2: Write a Script Think of advertisements that you have seen recently. How did you feel after seeing them? Were there any advertisements that were memorable? Why? Were you convinced to buy any of the products? Plan an interesting advertisement that will make people want to buy your invention. Use exciting and descriptive words to capture your audience’s attention and interest. Make a catchphrase or slogan that will stick in the minds of your audience. Make sure you include a catchphrase in your advertisement.

20 Step 2: Script – Introduction
The introduction should introduce your product or invention and grab the attention of the audience right from the start. Tell the audience the name of the invention at the very beginning of the script. Briefly describe what the invention is and what it does, using strong verbs, adjectives, and other words. For example, you could ask the audience if they ever have trouble with a certain task. Then say that the solution to their problem is your invention.

21 Step 2: Script – Middle The middle section of the script should give more details about your invention. Describe what it does, how it is used, and most importantly, why people should buy it. Explain how your invention is going to change their lives.

22 Step 2: Script – Ending Encourage your audience to try it out.
Remind them of the ways that your invention or product will help them. Include information such as where your invention is sold and how much it costs. You may include your catchphrase at the end of the advertisement.

23 Step 3: Make a Poster Make a poster highlighting the main points of your script. It can also be used as a visual aid that you can refer to while presenting. Using a poster helps the audience see your product and the benefits.

24 Presentation Tips Write down the main points in case you forget something in the middle of the presentation. Be sure to speak with a lot of energy and expression to be as persuasive as possible. Most importantly, you should practice, practice, and practice some more!
