Curriculum Map KS5 Media Studies Creative, Performance and Media Arts

2 Statement of intent Key Stage: KS5 Subject: Media Studies Academic Year: The A-Level Media Studies lessons are meant to build upon prior knowledge and skills which were taught and honed in Key Stages 3 and 4; however, students who are new to the subject will find the content accessible and engaging, as it covers nine different media formats. The course will be taught alongside the Media Studies department in Park High School, which enables the students to interact with students who are as passionate for media, while also experiencing different styles of teaching. While at Canons, students will study television series produced and broadcasted in three different countries, which will provide a clearer view of how the television operates in today’s global age. In addition, students will study a YouTube vlogging channel and an online magazine, both of which target and attract niche audiences through their content, marketing, and accessibility. Students will also study two magazines from two different time periods, comparing how the different historical, cultural, political, and social contexts affect the magazine industry and its representation of gender. Furthermore, students will study two marketing campaigns for films featuring varied cultures, ethnicities and age groups, and analyse how different contexts shape the film industry, especially through modern day cross-platform integration. Students will also study the video games industry and its appeal to a niche audience, while also maintain appropriate regulation. The ever-growing podcasting will be studied in relation to its appeal to a niche audience, while also dealing with podcasting’s impact on the radio industry.
