Regional activity NTNU wants to be a vital contributor to innovation and business development in the region. “Partners for Innovation”: NTNU, Sintef, SpareBank 1 SMN og NTE. The partners are promotors at interaction between business and research in the region. Annual meeting of regional business leaders and prominent scientists from NTNU and Sintef. The Partners for Innovation are committed to promote interaction between business and research in the region. 9 Gløshaugen Innovation Center
INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY NÆRINGSLIV OG NYSKAPING Gløshaugen Innovation Center Norway’s first on-campus incubator for innovation in business and industry Incubator for companies from NTNU and Sintef 18 companies (April 2012) Gløshaugen Innovation Center is primarily a service for students, faculty, employees or others with ties to NTNU or Sintef, aiming to set up businesses founded on interesting R&D-based ideas with a commercial potential. 10 NTNU Technology Transfer AS
INNOVATION AND CREATIVITY NTNU Technology Transfer AS Wholly owned subsidiary of NTNU. Creates business activities from research at NTNU and Central Norway Regional Health Authority (including St. Olav’s Hospital). Establishes spin-off companies and licenses new technology. Win-win cooperation among scientists, companies and investors. In early 2012, NTNU TTO has 18 employees. NTNU and industry – I Approx. 700 major research projects in cooperation with industry, the public sector and various funds. EUR 27.5 mill. to NTNU from industry and organizations in 2011. Many of NTNU’s ca. 200 adjunct professors (20 % positions) are connected to industry. Extensive offers in continuing and professional development, such as the annual industrial seminars at NTNU each January. The number of projects taken from the “Maconomy”-system of the Financial Division, April 2010. NTNU and industry – II Student trainee placements and project work in industry conveyed through International placement projects through IAESTE and EC programmes. Formal agreements among NTNU’s faculties, businesses and industry to stimulate cooperation. IAESTE = The International Association for the Exchange of Students for Technical Experience. Examples of agreements between faculty and industry organisations can be found at the Faculty of Natural Sciences and Technology (the chemical industry) and the Faculty of Engineering Science and Technology (the construction industry). Picture: The NTNU team of Photo: Shell Eco Marathon: Shell Eco-marathon challenges student teams from around the world to design, build and test ultra energy-efficient vehicles. NTNU has participated since and holds the world record from 2009 travelling the equivalent of 1246 km on a single litre of petrol. The team of 2012 is called DNV Fuel Fighter 2 – towards a low carbon future. April 2012
