To be adopted by BRTB on 11/20/11 Approved by federal gov’t in early 2012 Must meet federal air quality standards $8.8 billion dollars in regional projects LRTP updated every 4 years TIP – annual document updating 4 year horizon on construction projects UPWP – BMC/BRTB yearly staffing plan. Due to federal uncertainty and the recession, many regions are keeping the same timeframe for this plan. 20 years is the minimum for long range plans Money is reasonable anticipated state and federal input Key purposes in plan. Identify policies, strategies, and projects for the future; Determine the demand for transportation services over 20 years; Focus on the systems level, including roadways, transit, non-motorized transportation, and intermodal connections; Articulate regional land use, development, housing, and employment goals and plans; Estimate costs and identify reasonably available financial sources for operation, maintenance, and capital investments; and Determine ways to preserve existing roads and facilities and make efficient

Regional Freight Analysis Regional Transit Analysis Expanding Modeling Capabilities Freight Analysis Panama Canal to be complete in 2014 Expecting great increase in truck/rail movement (Perryman Peninsula and Route 40 will be among key areas impacted) Focus is to see how our system can better handle freight Regional Transit Analysis Connectivity study to make existing systems work better Look at priorities for new transit lines in our region (after redline and marc improvement plan, which are both adopted) Modeling Capabilities Look at new technologies to better estimate existing and future travel patterns and demand

3 ENERGY PURCHASING Straight from the Grid Hedged Purchasing
Power in Numbers $70,000, No Middle Man BMC Purchases energy directly from the grid. No BGE Hedged Purchasing We use a consultant who treats this like an investment portfolio. Power in Numbers All government buildings, school boards, community colleges, non-profits who get gov’t dollars (BMA, Walters…) Major Savings Over $70 million dollars saved vs. BGE’s PoLr Rate, the rate we would have been charged.
