“The New Jerusalem” Revelation 21:1-4 01/28/2006 Dr. Dane Boyles
2
“The New Jerusalem” 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. (Rev 21:1-2)
3
“The New Jerusalem” 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Now the dwelling of God is with men, and he will live with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” (Rev. 21:2-4)
4
“The New Jerusalem” Introduction
It’s hard to read this passage and not become overwhelmed with emotion. After we have experienced the difficulties of this sinful, fallen world, we then can appreciate what this passage says.
5
“The New Jerusalem” The Present Heaven and Earth will pass away.
10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. (2 Peter 3:10) 1 Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth (Rev 21:1)
6
“The New Jerusalem” This is not a renovation, this is a replacement!
God will make all things new. 5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” (Rev 21:5)
7
“The New Jerusalem” 35 Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away. (Matt 24:35) We are talking about the dwelling place of God; we are talking about being with God. Wherever God is, that’s were we will be!
8
“The New Jerusalem” The Description of the New Jerusalem.
It will be a city of “no mores.” No more separation from God (v. 3). No more tears or crying (v. 4). No more sorrow and pain (v. 4). No more death (v. 4). No more wants (v. 7). No more curse and no more sin! (v. 8)
9
“The New Jerusalem” It will be a perfect city from God.
Abraham (Heb. 11:10). Jesus. 3 “I go to prepare a place for you” (John 14:3) There will be no shortage on space! 2 “In my Father’s house there are many mansions” (John 14:2)
10
“The New Jerusalem” It will be a beautiful city.
It will shine with the Glory of God like crystal so there is no need for a sun or moon. (21:23, 22:5) 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and the Lamb is its lamp. (Rev 21:23)
11
“The New Jerusalem” It will be a city of worship and service. (22:3)
Only those who are saved will be there. 27 Nothing impure will ever enter it, nor will anyone who does what is shameful or deceitful, but only those whose names are written in the Lamb's book of life. (Rev 21:27)
12
“The New Jerusalem” We shall see His face and we will be identified as children of God. We shall reign for ever and ever!
13
“The New Jerusalem” Conclusion
Heaven is a place where we shall see Jesus face to face and dwell with Him for eternity. 15 And I--in righteousness I will see your face; when I awake, I will be satisfied with seeing your likeness. (Psalms 17:15)
14
“The New Jerusalem” When we see Him throughout eternity we shall be forever and fully satisfied.
