7 RIVER TICINO In this picture you can see the source of the river on the Novena (Nufenen) pass, in the St. Gotthard area, in Switzerland.

8 Its course can be divided into three parts
The upper Ticino which flows in Switzerland Lake maggiore The lower Ticino in Lombardy

9 THE LOWER TICINO In Sesto Calende, near Somma Lombardo, Lake Maggiore finishes and River Ticino reappears. In the following pictures you can see Sesto Calende bridge which divides the lake from the river.

12 THE MIORINA DAM The Miorina is in Golasecca, a small town not far from Sesto Calende. It regulates the water level of Lake Maggiore.

13 THE PORTO DELLA TORRE DAM
It is the second dam on River Ticino.

14 THE PANPERDUTO DAM

15 The Panperduto Dam Panperduto Dam is immediately after the Porto della Torre Dam. It diverts part of the river flow into a basin that feeds Canale Villoresi and Canale Industriale. Dams and canals have the purpose to water a large area of the country and to carry water to hydroelectric power plants.
