Risk Tolerance #5 : Personal experience with an outcome
When we have had a personal experience in our past with an injury outcome, we will be less accepting of the risks associated with that type of activity in the future. There have been a number of injury outcomes in our workplace over the past 12 months. This is a good time to recall them and continue to learn from these events. Yes it can happen and yes it has happened and just because it may not have happened to you doesn’t mean it can’t. The challenge: As our operations become safer by new processes and procedures, new workers may never have had a personal experience with a serious outcome and may be sceptical that it actually could occur. We need to ensure that workers who have not had a personal experience with an outcome still know that it is possible to have an incident with the types of activities that are carried out. It is important to stay vigilant and follow the correct processes and procedures. Over the years we have had 10 recordable injuries from the zone including 4 from NZ. These have resulted in Medical Treatment Injuries, Restricted Work Injuries and Lost Time Injury. These examples serve as a reminder that things can, and do happen. They all had a significant effect on the injured party. © 2015 Brookfield Global Integrated Solutions
