SOS: Signs of Suicide Second Act March 12, Junior Class
2
Summary - During your freshman year, in Freshman Seminar classes you learned about the Signs of Suicide (SOS) Program The goal of that program was to train you to be on the lookout for concerning signs in yourselves or your friends, and know what to do if you’re ever concerned You learned the ACT acronym Acknowledge (validate your friend) Care (let your friend know that you care about him/her) Tell (involve a trusted adult - don’t promise your friend secrecy)

Today We’ll be completing a “Refresher Course” reinforcing the teaching points of the original SOS Program Our goal is to review the symptoms of depression and/or suicide in yourselves or your friends We also want to help prepare you for life beyond high school
4
Why? Why do we do this and spend so much time on suicide prevention and awareness? Suicide is the second leading cause of death for young adults 80% of people aged with mental health disorders are not receiving services Mental Wellness is an important topic and one that we want you to be thinking about and feel free to talk about
