4 Classroom Expectations

5 Rewards and Consequences
Students clip up for being leaders of themselves, following school and classroom procedures. Students earn dolphin dollars which can be spent on predetermined items/treasure box. Consequences for not following expectations: Warning – yellow Walk 10 minutes of recess – orange Walk all recess – red Parent contact/referral

6 Organization Binder Sections are color coded according to subject area. Everything goes in the correct section, including homework. Take the time to keep it organized and cleaned up! Help reinforce and encourage good habits. (Front pockets should not be filled with papers) Highlighted text on study guides Flashcards/Spiral Index cards should be in their bookbag to study daily

7 Absences When you child has to be absent, please send a 
written excuse on the day of his or her return. Please 
include a reason for the absence and date. If you would like to pick up assignment, call or 
before noon.

8 Reading Counts Your child will be participating in the school-wide Reading Counts program. As a class, we will set reading goals. All 4th grade students are required to read at least 4 books on their level and 
pass 4 tests by the end of each quarter. Students are given the opportunity to take tests every day during our fluency 
time. Students may visit the library once a week, as long as the media center is open. Children are expected to read 20 minutes each night of the week, in addition to reading at school. They receive a reading log on Mondays to be turned in for a reading grade on Fridays.

Transportation Please notify us in writing if your child’s usual mode of 
transportation has been changed. and phone calls are not accepted.

10 Homework Daily math problems
Multiplication Flashcards (mastery by end of 1st Quarter) Daily science or social studies questions Word Analysis At least 20 minutes of reading each day at home Important... Math, Word Analysis, and Science/SS homework will be 
checked and reviewed daily. Homework reflects material covered in 
class. Homework is subject to change. Kids have copies of newsletters for each week and they are also sent via . Student Responsibilities -Arriving promptly and ready to learn. -Giving 100% effort. -Being prepared for class. -Reading 20 minutes four nights a week -Preparing for tests ahead of time at home. Homework reinforces what we teach PLEASE help us help your child!

11 Other important papers may also be included in your child's folder:
Graded Papers Graded papers will be sent home every Wednesday in your child's Dolphin Folder. You may keep the graded work. However, I need the yellow sheet inside the folder signed . The Dolphin Folder needs to be returned to school by Friday. Students are encouraged to review and make changes to the assignments that are a 79% or below. Other important papers may also be included in your child's folder: the Newington Newsletter, Scholastic Book Orders various notes about upcoming events Grading Scale A 80 – 89 B 70 – 79 C 60-69 D 59 under F
