Why are we spending all of this money on fences, most of which are perfectly OK and serve the purpose for which they are intended??????????????? Dear all, I have just completed the fence survey and was dismayed to discover that there was no consideration being given to staining the new fences. I believe that the Meadows continues to have the most attractive fences and fences most in keeping with Fairlington's brick Colonial Revival style. The fences that have not been stained seem more appropriate to Cape Cod or other rural areas. And, I do believe that our current fences would not yet have had to be replaced had the original staining schedule been kept. I doubt that a staining schedule would be any more difficult or expensive than the schedule being proposed for treating the fences. I do hope that there can be a reconsideration of staining the fences; I believe they are far more attractive than the unstained fences that one sees in other Fairlington Villages. Thank you for any consideration that you may give to my recommendation.

Thanks for all your help coordinating this, Mabel. I have a question for consideration of the fence committee regarding the finish of fence (treated or untreated). The treated option comes with the need to reapply treatment every four years at a cost of ~$42k, plus inflation. Q: How many more years would we have before the fences need to be replaced if they are treated vs untreated? I prefer the look of the treated pine, but what is more important is the total cost of the project. *If treating the fence does not add to the useful life of the fence before it needs to be replaced then it is only an additional cost for esthetics and I would prefer the untreated option. Thank you
