the acquisition of food by hunting, fishing, or the gathering of plant matter.

3. The types of foraging: Solitary Foraging. Social Foraging
There are 2 main types of Foraging, these are:
Solitary Foraging.
This is when foraging is done alone.
Social Foraging
Social Foraging happens when foraging is done in groups.

Important contributors to foraging theory have been made by:
Eric Charnov
Eric Charnov was the one that developed the marginal value theorem to predict the behaviour of foragers
Sir Kevin Durant
Sir Kevin Durant was the one that worked on the optimal diet model.
John Goss-Custard
John Goss-Custard was the one who first tested optimal diet model against behaviour in the field, and then proceeded to an extensive study of foraging.
