Explore energy nexuses with health, water, climate, food, transportation, security and conflict. Mason has world-class expertise on these multidisciplinary relationships. Foundational element is translating innovations in energy science into policy recommendations. MISSION: build a vibrant interdisciplinary energy science and policy hub at George Mason that develops integrative applied science and policy solutions for the energy security, sustainability and resilience challenges of Virginia and beyond. Develop multidisciplinary approaches & support for analyzing energy issues. Innovative solutions to current energy policy problems. Educational programs on energy security, sustainability and resilience challenges. THEMES: ● Supply: Innovations for energy supply security, transitions and sustainability to ensure a vibrant economic and environmental future. ● Demand: Innovations for energy demand efficiency and conservation to produce a smart and resilient society. ● Connected Systems: Innovations for connected energy systems and policies to nurture a smart energy society

3 CESP White Paper Near-Term Goals:
● Routine energy security assessments for Virginia and beyond, including the Virginia Energy Plan. ● Organize symposia on grid security, local energy and sustainability practices, energy system transitions, and the energy-water security nexus. ● Developing intracollege/school academic programs, including certificate and specific “energy science and policy”. ● Establish CESP as a center for energy science and policy collaboration, team building, and problem solving. ● Use new and traditional media to show how the Center is advancing Mason’s primary role in energy science and policy Fundraising: Donations & gifts, research grants, service contracts, public service
