The 25 embryologists were compared to the grades provided by the creator of the five category grading system (7), who served as the control (L.V.). There were 35 embryos evaluated by each embryologist. This figure demonstrates the mean variation and the SE of the mean in grading for each embryologist compared to control.

Mean variation of interobserver grading by number of cycles per year. There were 13 embryologists who were in programs that performed less than 500 cycles per year, and 13 who were in programs that performed more than 500 cycles per year (Table 1). The greater mean variation in interobserver grading correlated with fewer cycles (P<.001).
