An Overview for NEW users April , 2019 Libraries can now offer their patrons this invaluable resource that brings to life the details of America’s military veterans with stories, photos and personal documents.

4 What is Fold3? The Fold3 name comes from a traditional U.S. flag folding ceremony in which the third fold is made in honor and remembrance of veterans who served in defense of their country and to maintain peace throughout the world. Fold3™ Library Edition by Ancestry provides convenient access to US military records, including the stories, photos and documents of the men and women who served. It contains millions of records from world-class archives, many of which are exclusively available on Fold3. Fold3 is invaluable for historians, genealogists, researchers, military enthusiasts, veterans and their families, teachers and battle reenactors. The Fold3 name comes from a traditional flag folding ceremony in which the third fold is made in honor and remembrance of veterans.

5 Who uses Fold3? Historians, genealogists, veterans and their families, teachers and military enthusiasts can access more than 440 million records from the American Revolutionary War up through recent conflicts. Libraries can now offer their patrons this invaluable resource that brings to life the details of America’s military veterans with stories, photos and personal documents. Library patrons may choose to create a personal user account by providing their address and choosing a private password. The user interface for Fold3 Library Edition is nearly identical to the consumer version. Cross-searching of all content is the default user experience, but individual collections can be searched as well. The personal account works with the consumer version, too.

7 Landing page The Landing page can be used to conduct a keyword search of all records. You may access Memorials, Help, the Training Center or choose to Browse collections by conflict or by all titles.

Browse the content in Fold3 by category/conflict or by publication. A search form is available with each collection and allows searching within a single category.

Filter by Conflict, Place, Branch, Publication Name, Publication Type, Record type, Content provider, Military entity, Rank, Rank at discharge Sort by Relevance or Date View records that are OCR’d Link to tutorials from the new results page.

Images of soldiers in Military helmets are used to depict the conflict and lead users to corresponding record collections .

21 Search the U.S. Honor Wall
The U.S. Honor wall includes a carousel with memorial pages for living and deceased soldiers or military events. Choose an image from the collection to explore a soldier’s memorial page. You may also conduct a search on the U.S. Honor Wall or choose one of 10 different conflicts to explore memorials for enlisted soldiers.

Fold3 was designed to allow people to interact with what they find and add their own information and insights. To add something to Fold3 you will need a free member account so other site visitors will know where the information came from and so that you can update, remove or manage things you’ve added. Search or View and interactive Honor Wall for Vietnam War and World War II. About the Vietnam Veterans Memorial At full size, The Wall image on Fold3 is about 460 feet wide (400,000 pixels wide by 12,500 pixels tall). We found 58,320 names inscribed on The Wall. There are about 70 names which are duplicates or misspellings. 8 names are women. 2,056 are listed as "body not recovered." Average age is 22.8 years old. WWII Every-name searchable image of the USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
