2. Ricky 6 year old boy, middle child Dad: active duty in the Navy
Mom: part time consultant
Birth History: born at 35 weeks, brief NICU stay; mother took psychotropic meds during pregnancy
Medical history: asthma, bed wetting, nightmares, prior motor delay treated with physical therapy
School: in kindergarten, principal’s office several times, disruptive behaviors (speaking out of turn, yelling and using swear words, pushing/hitting other kids, lying, and not following classroom directions), suspended for 3 days

3. Family
8 year old sister, Gina, 2nd grade; Fighting with his sister about TV, leading to hitting sometimes
6 month old baby brother; mostly ignores, sometimes complaints about crying or smelly diapers
Swears at his mom and does not listen; doesn’t do well hearing ‘no’
Mom very organized when dad deployed, has schedule and expectations of children  
Excitement, fun events, gifts when dad returns; Dad does things ‘spur of the moment’

4. Parents
Soon after dad’s return, arguments about managing the kids’ daily schedules, money, responsibilities
Dad makes plans with friends, and mom not able to
Loud verbal fights, including swearing, within earshot of the kids
They do not get physical with each other, but dad will sometimes pound his fist on the table in frustration and mom has thrown a glass on the floor in anger
Dad leaves the house when he is upset
