Hypothetical model for the cellular interactions among mast cells, T cells, and keratinocytes in the uppermost dermis and basement membrane zone in inflamed skin. In these mechanisms, mast cell mediators histamine, IL-13, TNF-α, and TGF-β stimulate keratinocytes for MMP-9 expression, resulting in the degradation of the basement membrane and T-cell transmigration to the epidermis.
