2 The cavum septi pellucidi (CSP) is an important landmark in the evaluation of the fetal neural axis, identified as a fluidfilled space between the leaves of the septum pellucidum. Correctly identifying its presence is very important in predicting the course of fetal central forebrain development

3 A small CSP may be associated with serious fetal brain abnormalities such as corpus callosum disgenesis or septo-optic dysplasia. Large CSP may be associated with neurodevelopmental disorders such as schizophrenia. We aimed to determine, CSP volume measurements with 3- D ultrasound between weeks of gestation in structurally normal fetuses.

4 Methods: Three dimensional (3D) ultrasound imaging has been increasingly used as a complementary tool in fetal evaluation, offering the possibility of estimating fetal organ volumes and providing extra information on growth and maturation. 3D-ultrasound imaging has made it possible to more accurately measure the volumes of the organs and structures of fetus including those with irregular shapes such as the liver, lungs, femurs and kidneys.

5 We calculated the CSP volume in the transabdominal datasets obtained during 99 consecutive normal fetal ultrasound examinations by using 3-dimensional Virtual Organ Computer- aided Analysis (VOCAL) software. The software is primarily designed for organ volume measurement, but also allows 3D visualization of internal organs in the different visualization modes (surface, transparent and skeletal).

6 The averages of the measurements of two experienced examiners were used to determine CSP volumes.
Kolmogorov-Smirnov and Mann-Whitney U tests were used for comparisons. Spearman correlation analysis was used for correlation analysis.

8 Fetal CSP volume measurements between weeks of gestation increase in a dual step-wise manner, through to weeks of gestation.
