Self awareness Self esteem
What you know about yourself; your self knowledge. You know that you have certain strengths and weaknesses, reflecting on and understanding these helps you understand yourself. Self esteem How you feel about what you know about yourself. Do you feel good about your strengths and accepting of your weaknesses? Are you ashamed of your perceived weaknesses? Your self esteem has to do with how you feel about yourself.

Perceived self vs. Ideal self
Your perceived self is the way you currently see yourself. Your ideal self is who you would like to be. It is who you wish you were / the person you desire to be. Your self esteem is good when your perceived self is the same or is close to your ideal self. It is bad when your perceived self is far removed from your ideal self. Note: Your ideal self is always changing as you progress through life.

Our concept of what is ‘ideal’ changes over time…
Example: It used to be viewed as ideal to be thrifty and careful with your money. This was respected and people strived to be seen this way. Today it is viewed as ideal to be flashy and careless with your money. The more assets you have the better and many people aim to be able to be extravagant with money.
