Canada has 92 universities and university-degree level colleges – many have science and engineering programs Nuclear industry requires graduates in sciences and engineering disciplines Science graduates in – Chemistry, Environmental Science, Geology, Radiation Biology, Health Physics etc. Engineering – Chemical, Civil, Electrical, Environmental, Mechanical, Materials, Engineering Physics etc.

17 CNA – Education Resources for High School
Designed for use as course material for high school students – grades 9-12. Objective is to provide education to answer common questions about nuclear energy Is nuclear energy safe, environmentally friendly? How is it made? Students – learn more about the history, science and safety of nuclear technology, and the many diverse careers in the nuclear industry. Teachers take advantage of the CNA web-based curriculum-approved lesson plans developed with Ministries of Education and by leading scientists and educators Curriculum tie-ins include science, physics, environmental science, biology, history, social studies

18 CANTEACH CANTEACH is a knowledge repository in public domain - intended for use in various aspects of education, training, design and operation. Provides information exchange network for people interested in the CANDU energy system. Contributors are experts working in CANDU power plants, AECL, universities, and other CANDU-related organizations

5-MW reactor at McMaster University – research and I-125 production TRIUMF at University of British Columbia: Cyclotron for particle and nuclear physics research – owned and operated by a consortium of 15 universities. SLOWPOKE reactors at Royal Military College, Ecole Polytechnique, University of Alberta, Saskatchewan Research Council – neutron activation analysis CLS – Canadian Light Source – synchrotron facility at University of Saskatchewan for material studies Neutron Beam Centre – at Chalk River – for neutron scattering characterization of materials

Many initiatives have been taken to address the need such as UNENE ,CNA,CANTEACH etc… Universities are now taking part in development and training of new nuclear expertise Knowledge base is expanding through university research programs while developing HQP
