Academy Goals Prepare students for high-demand, high-wage and high-skill careers in health and medical sciences Grow the number of industry certifications awarded to high school students Provide internships, mentorships, clinical and cooperative experiences Increase program completion, graduation rates, college readiness and transition to postsecondary education Reduce proportion of students requiring remediation in college

Dates: July 8-19, 2019 Location: TC Williams High School 3330 King Street Alexandria, VA 22302 Time: Morning Session- 7:25 a.m.-10:40 a.m. Mid Day Session- 11:00 a.m.-2:15 p.m. Late Afternoon- 2:30 p.m.-5:30 p.m. Fridays: 9:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. (All Students)

Academic Rigor: GW DE Courses
To ensure program quality and academic integrity: Dual enrollment (DE) courses will meet the same level and rigor as courses taught on GW’s campus DE students are held to postsecondary expectations Courses offered as hybrid and Blackboard is the LMS Follow College Deadlines for assignment due dates Assessment - College level GW & ACPS grades are independent and may differ Students must earn a C (73%) or better to continue in program

Transcripts & Transferability
GW Transcripts DE courses generate college grades and transcript Transferability Credits usually accepted as elective college credits DE credit transferability is variable based on; postsecondary institutions college major GW SMHS guarantees transferability & guaranteed admission to BSHS degrees

HEALTH CAREERS OPPORTUNITY PROGRAM (HCOP)
GW received a training grant from HRSA in 2018 HCOP strives to create a future generation of health professionals from diverse backgrounds to provide culturally-competent care for unserved and underserved populations in our region Federal support will be used to support the Governor’s Academy of Health Sciences Student stipends, scholarships, technology, research HRSA=U.S. Health Resources & Services Administration

Educational partners include George Washington, Alexandria City Public Schools, NOVA Community College, Montgomery College, and Prince George’s County Community College

Refer to Informed Consent & Privacy Authorization Form The research supports the HCOP pipeline project Participation is voluntary Participation involves these activities: Completing surveys related to the Academy Joining small group discussions led by faculty Completing questionnaire that explores student attitudes about caring for underserved populations Taking a computer-based assessments called Implicit Association Tests that measure hidden biases.
