Grace Fellowship Church
Pastor/Teacher Jim Rickard Title Page Below are some simple instructions on how to use this template: 1. You can change the text in the graphical screen above or in the outline area to the left. 2. There is one default background that is indicated by “ ” .This slide acts as a space or a blank screen, use to clear or blank the screen. If you have a large graphic such as a map you could also use this screen. If you insert a new slide you will get this default background. 3. The first five slides have the other backgrounds for the set. To use more than one of these background types in your presentation highlight the one you wish to use and choose copy from the edit menu. Paste this slide where you want it to appear in your presentation, then change the text on this new slide. By copy/pasting the slide in this manor you will keep the background, text formatting and the customized animation from that slide. By using the copy/paste method you find it saves you time and keeps a consistent look through out your presentation. 4.There are a few additional notes written in the slide text wording that may be helpful. Note: We are working on a website that in the future will provide help topics on using sermon outlines in PowerPoint as well as provide sermon templates similar to this one. Check for more information. Sunday, July 29, 2012

Spiritual Initiative Part 4

Taking the Spiritual Initiative against Drudgery. “Arise, and shine
Taking the Spiritual Initiative against Drudgery. “Arise, and shine.” Isaiah 60:1
4
“Arise and Shine” are QUM, “to rise, arise, stand, rise up, stand up”, and ‘OR, “to be or become light, shine or illuminate”. Both are in the Qal (active) Imperative (command).
5
To take the spiritual initiative against drudgery, you have to take the first step. Before you “rise and shine” you are in fact “asleep” or “dead in your transgressions”, experientially. Eph 5:14
6
As a believer, until you rise from your sins through 1 John 1:9 and be cleansed, you remain asleep experientially and can not live the unique spiritual life of the Church Age.
7
When we are in that state, God does not help us, other than to discipline us. Heb 12:5-11; Rev 3:19
8
Heb 4:16, “Therefore let us draw near with confidence to the throne of grace, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help in time of need.” Cf. Eph 5:15
9
Jesus Christ is the True Light of the world, John 1:1-9; 3:19-21; 8:12; 9:5; 12:35-36, 46; 2 Cor 4:4-6. That light has come into the world and has come into your heart as a believer, 2 Cor 4:6.
10
2 Cor 4:6, “For God, who said, “Light shall shine out of darkness,” is the One who has shone in our hearts to give the Light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”
11
With His light in you, you can respond to the command, “rise and shine” (rebound and application of His Word), thereby shining His light in you unto others.
12
When God gives us His inspiration, through Divine discipline or that small still voice of the Holy Spirit, 1 Kings 19, suddenly taking the initiative becomes a moral issue, a matter of obedience.
13
If God’s glory is seen upon you to your honor, you ought to, not only with your lips, but in your life, return its praise to Him by serving Him and bringing many lost souls to the Light.
14
If you will “arise and shine”, drudgery will be Divinely transformed into spiritual exuberance.
15
Drudgery is: “tedious menial or unpleasant work, boring and unpleasant work that is necessary, or boring and unpleasant work that you have to do”.
16
Drudgery is one of the finest tests to determine the genuineness of our character.
17
In John 13 we see the Incarnate God performing the greatest example of drudgery; washing fishermen’s feet.
18
His washing of their feet was a picture of His work on the Cross and therefore the mundane was transformed into significance.
19
Therefore, we too should serve others even in the most mundane of tasks, because it will have tremendous significance and fruit.
20
The inspiration of God (F. G. t. H. S
The inspiration of God (F.G.t.H.S.) is required if drudgery is to shine with the light of God upon it, which takes obedience (+V); your personal spiritual initiative.
21
Spiritual initiative continues as you are motivated by your love for God to take on the drudgery of everyday life.
22
When the Lord does something through us, He always transforms it.
23
We have been transformed to become “the temple of the Holy Spirit”, 1 Cor 3:16; 6:1.
24
And we have become Light, Mat 4:16; 5:14-16; 2 Cor 4:6; 6:14; Eph 5:8; Col 1:12; 1 Thes 5:5; 1 Peter 2:9.
25
To escape the drudgeries of this life, have the attitude that in everything you do you are doing it for the Lord, and the Lord is in everything you do.
26
When you do this, you have “risen up and are shining” as our Lord has commanded us to do!
