Learning Patterns in Procedural Skills Acquisition with Enriched Information

Method 39 Participants used a computerized training application that presented step-by-step assembly instructions: Control group: was trained with the computer application only Model group: was also given the real-world final LEGO® model to study and analyze during the training Trainees had 19 minutes to train with the computer application, after which they were required to build the real LEGO® model in the test phase

Results and Conclusions
Learning patterns were found to differ between the groups. Several learning patterns were correlated with poor performance in the Model group only. Overconfidence and over-reliance on the real model deteriorated performance with the enriched information. When the real model was provided during training, the active integration process became more complex, and hence several inefficient learning patterns were developed. 3
