2 Placement Placement is determined by location of the services and the age of the student Placement does not reflect the amount or percent of special education services. Location is the physical location where a student receives special education and related services

3 Placement (continued)
The student’s age, not grade or classroom designation, determines which placement codes to use School age placement codes 1-8 are for ages 6-21+ Pre-school placement codes are for ages 0-5 If a student has more than one placement location, the code reflects where the student spends the majority (50% or more) of the day.

Code 1: Regular Education Setting  Code 2: Public Separate School Code 3: Private Day School Code 4: Public Residential School Code 5: Private Residential School   Code 6: Homebound Placement Code 7: Hospital Program  Code 8: Correctional Education Program

5 Placement Categories for Ages Zero – Five
Code 17: Regular Early Childhood Setting Code 18: Special Education Classroom Code 19: Separate Special Education School Code 20: Special Education Residential Facility Code 21: Home Code 22: Service Provider Location

6 Tuition Paid Codes

7 What are Tuition Paid Codes?
Tuition Paid codes identify that tuition was paid or received for a student. Tuition Paid codes must be used when the responsible division is NOT the serving division.

8 Tuition Paid Codes (continued)
When reporting paid tuition to private institutions (tuition paid code 3 or 7) The placement code must be 3, 5, 19, or 20 The serving division must be 600 When reporting paid tuition to regional program centers (tuition paid code 4) The serving division must equal the three digit code for the regional program

9 Tuition Paid Codes for Serving Division 600
If the Placement Code is 3 Private Day or 5 Private Residential (for ages 6-21) or 19 Separate SpEd School or 20 SpEd Residential Facility (ages 0-5) AND the serving division equals 600, Use: 3 for Paid Tuition to Private Institution (if not CSA funded) or 7 for Private Day & Residential Placement (if it is CSA funded)

10 Responsible or Serving Division?
The Responsible Division is the division that is legally responsible for the provision of a Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE). The Serving Division is the division that provides the special education services to the student.

11 Common Tuition Paid Codes
03 - paid tuition to a private institution- does not include placements funded through the Comprehensive Services Act (CSA) 04 - paid tuition to a regional center 05 - received tuition from another school division 07 - state’s share of the tuition paid through CSA funds
