5. Searching There are two ways to search in Factiva.
From the basic search that looks much like other basic search boxes and the Search command that will build and save searches

So, that’s a quick way to find an overview of a top—articles in the middle, facets and companies on the left, etc.

9. Company Search
If I want to search by company there are quite a few options

DUNS
Registration ID
The dropdown In Smart Lookup helps give ticker and DUNS info along with options to help decide which company you are looking for
Company Search gives different options as well.

10. Company Results
Peer comparison and financial results are beneficial tools for analysis
Also extracting company reports can be used with research from ABI/INFORM Trade and Industry (if customer has that)
There are several reports from which to choose, all that give a different perspective and intelligence on a company.

11. Industry Information
From the original search, faceting to an industry can reveal some valuable snapshot information as well.
Remember the original filters and determine if those should be kept the same or change.  In this case, a blog or web news might be useful.

17. Factiva Expert Search From Search Builder page:
Choose Factiva Expert Search and you will get a hierarchical menu of complex pre-built search strategies for topics ranging from investor sentiment to counterfeit drugs. Click the little “i” next to the search topic and you will see the entire search strategy… and it’s not just a couple of industry codes. The search query for the Factiva Expert Search on climate change, for example, is hlp=(climate change or global warming) and ((atleast3 climate change or atleast3 global warming) or (greenhouse near5 (gas or gases) and greenhouse near5 (effect$2 or affect*))) and rst=tmnb and wc>600 and la=en Whew! But just looking at this search serves as a good reminder of the search tools available in Factiva – limiting the search to headline or lead paragraph, using the atleastn and nearn operators, truncating with various options and using the word-count operator to eliminate brief stories. (Note that you can also use Factiva’s Query Genius button, available in the upper right corner, to help spot errors when building a complex query.)
