No sudden failure No possibility of thermal runaway, as with VRLA Ni-Cd capability degrades slowly and predictably No frequent battery replacements Ni-Cd life is typically longer than that of the UPS Ni-Cd is relatively unaffected by cycling High reliability and low operating costs make Ni-Cd highly cost effective 5
