EV charging at home Safe, cost effective, simple, smart and green! b Dr Chris Horne, Commercial Director

...EV owners are needlessly risking their health.
Published 30th May 2019 Consumer protection charity Electrical Safety First found that in a survey of 1,500 plug-in EV car owners of those respondents who reported charging their cars from home, three-quarters would do so using multiple extension leads plugged into one another to reach their car. More than half admit risking a fire by "daisy chaining" extension leads ...EV owners are needlessly risking their health. Installation of a dedicated EV charge point at home is an essential part of the “new EV driver experience” So why don’t EV drivers install a charge point home?

zappi Eco-smart EV charger. Charge your EV with your PV A lot of EV drivers have bought EV’s because they are green, so may already have PV panels installed.

ECO-smart charging Works like a conventional charger if required
waiting eco charging waiting boosting paused Works like a conventional charger if required Timed charging – for EV / economy tariffs “PV ready” Smart – for future “demand side services” kW So how does PV integration help with grid integration of EV’s? ECO+ charging mode - set to use only 100% solar energy. Not causing import – nothing coming in from the grid. Energy is not exported – not wasted. Reduce grid import Reduce local voltage rise Reduce effect of clouds causing power and voltage swings

Safety EV charge points are usually installed outside
Dedicated charge point with a 32A cable will charge the car faster than using a standard socket (up to 7kW on a single phase domestic supply1) The charge point needs to be safe – weather proof, robust and with the right electrical protection New rules in the Wiring Regulations (18th Edition - BS7670) require additional protection Additional RCD Protection against a “lost neutral conductor” – for most charge points this requires an earth rod Both included in Zappi – simple and quick to install 1) Depends on vehicle and battery “state of charge”
6
Government Grants The Office for Low Emission Vehicles (OLEV) provide grants for chargepoints at home under the EV Homecharge Scheme Covers up to 75% of the total cost of the installation Maximum grant £500 (including VAT) per eligible vehicle -grants-for-low-emission-vehicles#electric-vehicle- homecharge-scheme Customer must have an EV (owned / leased / primary access)… … and off-street parking EV on OLEV approved vehicle list Chargepoint approved by OLEV … … and “smart” (from July 2019) Installer approved by OLEV Application for the grant is made by the installer.
