1 In light of the grace we received at Jesus’ cross and the hope
we find at His empty tomb, how should this affect our living?

2 Ephesians 5: 8-14 “The Fruit of the Light” and
Our Christian calling to continue to grow in fruitful holiness; bearing witness to our dark world

3 “Agathosune” being open-heartedly generous or benevolent in actions towards others, which flows from internal righteousness and a desire for truth and justice

4 Paul is pleading for the Ephesians to not stop short in their quest for Christ-like holiness; but to let their “goodness” grow fully mature and fruitful.

5 Warnings against the “fruitless deeds
of darkness” in Ephesians 5: Have no “hint” of it No inheritance with God Don’t be partners with Have nothing to do with Expose them / Shameful Be careful, not foolish

6 Jesus Christ. As we connect deeper with Him, the brighter we’ll shine!
As “children of the light”, Paul rightly states that we should want to find out what pleases God and that our living should begin to mirror the values of Jesus Christ. As we connect deeper with Him, the brighter we’ll shine!

7 of superiority; but out of his deep appreciation for the Gospel.
Paul doesn’t speak sternly to the Ephesians (and to us) from a position of superiority; but out of his deep appreciation for the Gospel. Having been rescued from darkness, why would anyone want to flirt with it?

8 we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light,
1 John 1: 6-7 6  “If we claim to have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. 7 But if we walk in the light, as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, His Son, purifies us from all sin.”

9 Isaiah 60:1 “Arise, shine, for your light has come, and the glory
of the Lord rises upon you.”

10 Revelation 3: 1-6 The resurrected Jesus warns the church at Sardis (through John) to “wake up” and repent of their sins… to add deeds on to their previous foundation of faith.

11 “Light Living” 1.) Simple: Be good & Do good daily.
2.) By living free from sin in a public manner, you will naturally “expose” sin on a regular basis; so be ready to explain why you choose to live this way to others. 3.) Address sin amongst other Christians firmly and graciously. 4.) Expose injustices for the victims’ sake.

12 “Leaving Egypt” Beginning next week, we start our
Summer Sermon Series: “Leaving Egypt” - Based on the book by Chuck DeGroat * Lessons on freedom from the Exodus of the Israelites from Egypt
