Introductions Metrology is a part of our lives from birth
Technical evidence Safe treatment Safe food Healthcare Manufacturing Climate change Globalization Innovation Safe traveling weighing of baby Safe baby food Best regulation
4
Metrology Metrology, the science of measurements
Metrology is often divided into three subfields: Scientific or fundamental metrology Applied or industrial metrology Legal metrology
5
Metrology Subfields... Scientific or fundamental metrology
The establishment of measurement units, Unit systems, The development of new measurement methods. Realization of measurement units. The transfer of metrological traceability from these standards to users in society.
6
Metrology Subfields... Applied or industrial metrology
The application of measurement science to manufacturing and other processes Their use in society, ensuring the suitability of measurement instruments, The calibration and quality control of measurement
7
Role of Legal Metrology
Regulatory requirements of measurements and measuring instruments for the protection of health, Public safety, The environment, enabling taxation, Protection of consumers and fair trade.
8
Role of Legal Metrology…
Legal metrology relies on the following activities: 1. establishing the law & 2. supervising the law; 3. Providing traceability for measurements and measuring instruments. Legal metrology compliments scientific and industrial measurement. Supports the practical application of measurements

Role of Legal Metrology…

Purpose of calibration
There are three main reasons for having equipment's calibrated: To ensure readings from an equipment's are consistent with other measurements. To determine the accuracy of the equipment readings. To establish the reliability of the equipment i.e. that it can be trusted. Calibration cover the follows: Traceability: relating your measurements to others. Uncertainty: How accurate are your measurements? Reliability: Can I trust the equipment's? Achieving Traceability in your measurements.

Application of Metrology
Mining & Nuclear Industries Safety and radiation protection Control of radioactive materials Control of workers’ radiation doses Measurement of radiation Conventional health and safety Protecting the public Measure key parameters in the environment Estimate potential dose to the public Protecting the environment Control releases to the air, to surface water and to ground water Measure releases: effects • Take action, when require

Application of Metrology The role of Metrology in the Hospitals
Medical devices or Equipment's Any instrument, apparatus, appliance, or in combination, for its intended to be used for human beings for the purpose of: diagnosis, prevention, monitoring, treatment of disease, injury or handicap, investigation, replacement of the anatomy or of a physiological process, control of conception Most of the medical devices are : Calibrated Test and verifications High decision are taken based on unreliable devices or equipment's. Estimated 44,000 – 98,000 medical error deaths

Science of Measurement was Compromised???
17
Conclusion Science of measurements plays a key role in the manufacturing, nuclear industries, mining and hospitals. Good decision are achieved base on measurements results. Closing the gap between the laboratory language and the end user that is interpretation of calibration certificates. Educate the end user how to correlate the calibration certificates in the work fields environment.
