7. OCEAN CHEMISTRY
Why is the ocean salty? When it rains on land, some of the water dissolves minerals in rocks. That water flows in rivers to the sea. It carries the minerals with it. When water evaporates back out of the ocean, it leaves the minerals behind. The minerals make sea salty water.

9. WEATHER
Weather is the state of the atmosphere at a given time and place. Most weather takes place in the troposphere, the lowest layer of the atmosphere.

Clouds
Clouds can come in all sizes and shapes, and can form near the ground or high in the atmosphere. Clouds are groups of tiny water droplets or ice crystals in the sky and are formed by different processes. They can make different kinds of precipitation depending on the atmosphere's temperature.

At any given time, clouds cover about 50% of the Earth. We would not have rain, thunderstorms, rainbows, or snow without clouds. Clouds make up some of the atmospheric optics we can see in the sky.

16. Water AND WEATHER ACTIVITY
Students will create a diagram that shows the relationship of the water cycle and weather. The diagram requirements:
Picture of the water cycling through the atmosphere showing weather.
The picture will be labeled with the vocabulary.
Vocabulary will have explanations of what is happening.
Arrows will show and explain the traveling of the water through the atmosphere creating weather.
Use color to more clearly show what is happening in the diagram.
