Parts of speech are word types. … Parts of speech tell us the jobs that words perform. … There are eight parts of speech.

6 Pronoun Pronouns are words that take the place of nouns.
Every pronoun must have a clear antecedent, or word it replaces. Subject pronouns stand for people. They include: I, you, he, she, it, they, we.  Object pronouns stand for objects. They include me, you, him, her, it, us, them.  John tied his shoe. noun pronoun

9 Verb A verb is a word showing action, movement, or being.
Jump, kick, scream, and dance are all verbs. The kids danced until midnight!

13 Adverb An adverb describes a verb.
Adverbs tell us how, when, or where something happens. Adverbs often end in “ly.” The horse jumped gracefully over the fence. verb adverb

16 Preposition A preposition is a word that shows relationships among other words in the sentence. A preposition links the other words together. A few common prepositions are: about, beside, down, over, without

17 Preposition Examples in Use:
The scared dog hid under the bed during the storm. .. Under and during are both prepositions because they link the rest of the sentence together.

19 Conjunction A conjunction connects two words, phrases or clauses together. … The most common ones are and, or, but, and so. EXAMPLES: Mike and Steve went to the park. I wanted to climb a tree, but my mom said no.

21 Interjection An interjection is a word that expresses a strong feeling or emotion. Wow! Hi! Ouch! Uh… Um.. Well.. Interjections
