Southern Christian Leadership Conference SCLC
Founded in 1957 after the Montgomery Bus Boycotts Led by Dr. Martin Luther King from inception until his death in 1968 Three Basic Tenants of the SCLC Bring all races together to support integration efforts Seek Justice and reject all forms of injustice All members must adhere to nonviolent ideology

Organization SCLC took on the role of organizing boycotts, marches, and protest movements. Brought together grassroots protests within a larger framework of resistance

1961 Albany, Georgia SCLC promoted a protest march but the media did not respond. First protest was determined to be a failure Publicizing protest actions became a priority for the organization
