Given what you know about cells and that each cell has a nucleus containing genetic information necessary for the cell to function & the organism to survive, how does an organism go from being the size of a baby to an adult? They grow….but where do those new cells come from and how do they receive a copy of the same genetic information as the original cell? ANSWER: MITOSIS NOTE: There are some adult stem cells that produce new cells, but these are very few.

What if you break your arm or get a paper cut?
Where do the bone cells come from that repair the break, or the skin cells that repair the cut? ANSWER: MITOSIS

But before getting into the details of Mitosis, first we need to discuss the cell cycle. How old are you? Have you run out of cells?
