The introduction contains the thesis statement. The thesis statement is the most important sentence in the entire essay. THESIS STATEMENT = If I could summarize the entire essay in one sentence, this is what I would say? 3 The introduction paragraph should contain three to five sentences.

SENTENCE STRUCTURE: making sure your sentences are formed properly USAGE: making sure nouns, verbs, and pronouns are used correctly PUNCTUATION: making sure commas, quotation marks, and end punctuation are used correctly When we are told to “observe the conventions of standard English,” it simply means to write properly.
