We’re usually not aware of our own culture
The way we live out our lives seems “Natural” and/or “Correct” and even “Superior” to other cultures
We tend to judge other cultures based on our own values and beliefs (Ethnocentrism)

Culture is a powerful human tool for survival

Miscommunication and misinterpretation
Lack of awareness of other cultural beliefs, practices and lifestyles
Applying your own cultural values in your work when dealing with people from other cultures (Ethnocentrism)

Expect difference in attitudes, beliefs, verbal and non-verbal language
Speak clearly
Avoid using jargon and idioms

Be prepared to act or demonstrate tasks to ensure you’re understood
Use a professional interpreter
